2005 Mendocino County Zinfandel

Dear {First_Name},

Although I started the winery by planting Merlot, we have since had great success with all of our varietals. However, our most award-winning bottles have been Zinfandels. Our newest award-winning Zinfandel, the 2005 Mendocino 'Old Vine' Zinfandel, is no different. I am pleased to announce that we just received a Double Gold (a unanimous vote for Gold by all of the judges) from the San Francisco International Wine Competition.

Amy and I just returned from our honeymoon after our July wedding. We backpacked into the Trinity Alps, went fly fishing at about 8,500 feet and made camp alongside a mountain stream near where it runs out of a small, beautiful lake at the edge of a rocky bluff. We were both so tired after setting up camp, we finished off the bottle of sauvignon blanc we had for supper the night before and I started my Trinity Alps hamburgers on the little fire I made with some fallen pine branches. I served my big, juicy Trinity Alps burgers with a glass of our 2005 Mendocino 'Old Vine' Zinfandel as the stream flowed over boulders into a large hole of water just 20 feet below us. With the small mountain lake at our back I expected Amy to say, "Honey, what a romantic meal you have prepared." But instead she looked up at me and said, "What an incredible Zinfandel! It tastes so good with your burger! Which Zin is this?" I said, "Our 2005 Mendocino Zinfandel." She said, "You're kidding me." Upon our return, we were not surprised with the news about the Double Gold Medal.

Now, you don't have to climb to 8,500 feet to enjoy this wine. Slight aromas of molasses lead into flavors of ripe fruit, sweet Cuban tobacco and spicy cinnamon. A smoky finish of cedar and tea leaves compliment the intense fruit flavors. This gorgeous red wine is delicious when paired with fresh smoked burgers right off the grill, flank steak tacos with mild to medium salsa, a slab of spareribs slathered in your favorite barbeque sauce, and many other dishes.

The 29th annual San Francisco International Wine Competition brought together 1,200 wineries from 21 countries across the globe to compete in this high-profile wine championship. With over forty renowned judges from all around the world, specializing in wine and food, and tasting over 4,200 wines, the prestigious competition fared well for our boutique winery.

I encourage you to try our Double Gold medaled 2005 Mendocino 'Old Vine' Zinfandel before this winner is gone from the shelves for good. Only 646 cases produced.

Hope you enjoyed the story about Amy and I on just one of the evenings of our honeymoon. We truly enjoy keeping you informed on what is going on in our lives.

Cheers,
Please enjoy

Join the Ledson Family in a carousing night of entertainment in the USO-style of the 1940's era.
