Dear Friends,
When I was just a little guy and would go out farming with my Dad, he and I would wind down a day of work by stopping by the
Bacigalupi Vineyard on our way home to visit with the family. They owned a small 5 acre estate right in the heart of the
Russian River basin on Piner Road near Olivet Lane. Sometime in the early 50's, Ernie Bacigalupi and his father
planted a vineyard of Zinfandel vines. Over the years and into my twenties, my father and I would drop by the Bacigalupi
Vineyard in the afternoons to taste the fantastic wine the vineyard produced while sharing stories of life, love and the
pursuit of all things good. We would sit out on the porch overlooking the vineyard, enjoying the cool evening breeze the
Russian River Valley is so notorious for. Never would I have dreamed as a child that I would produce wine after wine from
this vineyard and that they would continue to win medal after medal. Therefore, I am so pleased that this
2006 Russian River 'Old Vine' Zinfandel has been honored with a
92 Point Score and Cellar Selection from Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
This vineyard and the people who originally farmed it have been a part of my life for almost as long as I can remember.
Ernie and I maintained a long-standing friendship; from chasing one another across the yard when I was a boy to
driving him around in his Cadillac during his later years. Not only has this vineyard produced incredible wine, it
has been a constant reminder of some of the most fun and exciting parts of my life. Every sip of this Zinfandel brings a smile to my face.
This Zinfandel has loads of up-front fruit, great color and a depth of character that can only be produced by 60+ year
old vines, meticulously tended to with care by their growers. Currently, there are only 400 cases of the
2006 Russian River Old Vine Zinfandel left and with a score of 92 points, it is bound to be gone overnight.
I wish I could sit down and share with you the hundreds of stories I have about my life in relation to this vineyard.
Yet, I feel confident knowing that the wine itself tells a story - and if you enjoy it half as much as I do, I will be pleased.
Cheers,
Steve Noble Ledson
